Condition Assessment & Stabilization Recommendations

Wyoming State HAAF Grant

To understand the tasks we may accomplish while still maintaining (or restoring) the historic integrity of the property, the Committee applied for the Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office's (SHPO) HAAF Grant.

The Bondurant Library Restoration Committee was awarded the Grant in spring of 2010. For the Library project, the SHPO contracted with Kurt Dubbe, a qualified architect from Jackson, to perform the Library's assessment. We met with Kurt in May 2010.

Condition Assessment & Stabilization Recommendations

Kurt's report about the project is an excellent read. The report describes the building's current condition, then describes particular areas of concern individually (foundation, building relocation, log walls, roof insulation, windows, floor structure, doors, interior, code compliance and electrical service) and a recommended action to be taken for each. Bondurant residents will immediately recognize each photograph and each topic.

Following is the report's Summary:

While this historic library could use some stabilization and rehabilitation, it is deemed to be in moderate condition. The recommendations listed above are provided to help preserve and maintain the historic character of this building, as well as help better prepare the structure for continued service to the community of Bondurant. It is our recommendation that restoration work of any character defining features be stabilized, repaired, and/or replaced with respect to the Secretary of the Interior Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties...
